Instagram is a great social media app. With a few clicks and taps, you can reach just about anyone in the world, watch how they live, learn from them, relate to them, and even teach them.
This article covers why Instagram explore page full of models and what can you do about it. Let us start without further ado!
Why is my Instagram explore page full of models
Reason 1- Interaction with specific posts
Your Instagram provides you with the posts from the accounts you are following. In the explore page, the algorithm selects other similar accounts that post content related either directly or indirectly to it and shows it to you.
If in case you end up liking one of the posts or following the account, then they are added to the list of accounts to use as a reference as well, leading to more refined results in the explore tabs. This is one reason why your Instagram explore page full of models.
Reason 2- Following various celebrities/ models
Celebrities or influencers are verified and thus Instagram performs thorough research on who to recommend based on who you follow. Specific influencers or models would show other specific models, which might be their friend, a collaborating partner, or something similar.
A great example could be Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. If you follow either one of them, you must be aware they are awfully good friends and thus are in each other’s posts quite often.
Instagram uses this to its advantage to show the post of the other person that you might have not followed (say Hugh Jackman if you have been following Ryan Reynolds). There are many more examples lying out there, including Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Kevin Hart.
Reason 3- Certain hashtags and channels
Hashtags are a string of letters and numbers that make sense and point to a specific topic. Since they can be used with literally every kind of incident, opportunity, and situation, they are easy to use for finding out specific events.
If you are frequently using the hashtag ‘#catlovers’, for instance, then your Instagram feed would slowly start to get filled with cats and their owner’s posts, all sorts of memes, and cute content.
If you have searched for hashtags such as #influencers, #perfection, #viral, #goodvibes, #beauty, or other similar tags, the chances of getting models recommended to your explore page are quite high.
What does your Instagram explore page say about you
1. Your hobbies and creativity
Hobbies are one of the important characteristics of a person. They more or less make us who we are. Some like reading, while others enjoy traveling. Various people enjoy cooking food whereas many like to play video games.
People enjoy making vlogs, they like origami, singing, dancing, racing, and all sorts of unique things. Honestly, there is no end to the creativity one could bring to their hobby.
Your explore page shows you what you love. For some, it is football, while for others it is drama and movie celebrities. From felines to Astronomy, there is no end to what gets you going. If you doubt what you love to do, trust me, your explore page will help you out!
2. The kind of lifestyle you live
Are you outgoing? Do you enjoy living your life rummaging through the foliage of forests? Or maybe you enjoy a cruise with your friends.
Perhaps you love neon lights and a large desktop setup, or you enjoy the turning of pages while sitting in a room as sunlight bathes it? Honestly, a comfy bed works just as well.
The Instagram explore page shows how and where you enjoy spending most of your time, and what kind of activities get you interested and seem pretty.
3. The friend circle or audience you would enjoy
Do you enjoy influencers who do skits, pranks and play music out in the public, maybe involving them occasionally as well? Or skateboarding by yourself on a quiet Sunday afternoon?
Whether a person enjoys staying in groups more or enjoys having an audience is determinable by the kind of posts and activities they watch or are being recommended on the Instagram Explore page.
How to reset explore page on Instagram
Method 1- Using the ‘Not Interested’ option
This is one of the easiest and most useful options if you would like to avoid certain Instagram posts.
With the increasing number of users trying to make a living out of Instagram as models or influencers, it can be hard to sort through all kinds of posts. If you find a post that you would not like to see, here is remove it:
- Step 1: Find the post that you would like to avoid.
- Step 2: Look for the three-dot horizontal icon at the top right of the post.
For Reels and other videos, you might have to click on them to find the option.
Step 3: Click on ‘Not Interested‘.
This will remove the post from your feed and provide you with a bunch of further options as well that we would discuss in the next bit.
Method 2- Prohibiting posts with certain words
If you were searching certain hashtags and came across the post then maybe simply not recommending the post would not do it. You might have to mention the specific words that, if in the post, then it would not be shown to you.
Right after clicking on ‘Not Interested’, you would get two options: ‘Don’t suggest posts with specific words’ and ‘This post made me feel uncomfortable’. Click on the first option and add any kind of text, emoji, or phrases that you would like to avoid in the post next time and there you go!
Method 3- Resetting the Explore page
Every time you look at a new post, or like it, the explore page changes little by little. A good example is how I started with beautiful landscapes around the world and ended with cat memes.
Now they are great, don’t get me wrong, but what if I wanted to explore things other than memes? Resetting the Explore page helps you in achieving exactly that.
- Step 1: Open the Instagram app.
You can also use www.instagram.com instead.
- Step 2: Click on the profile picture on the bottom right side of the screen.
- Step 3: Click on the Three horizontal line menu button on the top right.
- Step 4: Select ‘Your Activity‘ from the list of options.
- Step 5: Tap on ‘Recent Searches‘.
- Step 6: Tap on ‘Clear All‘.
This way you can clear the searches you made and prevent Instagram from using them as an example to recommend similar posts.
