Why Can’t I Go Live on TikTok (Reasons & Solutions)

TikTok is the leading entertainment app in the present times. While many users use it for entertainment and fun, a lot of users have a professional attachment to it, and do a bunch of activities such as going live to interact and increase their audience.

In such cases, not being able to go live on TikTok is going to be a worrisome situation for many who plan to, or presently earn their living by TikTok. Here we discuss all about it in detail.

Why can’t I go live on TikTok

Short answer: you are unable to go live on TikTok due to age restrictions, inadequate amount of followers, or glitches and maintenance issues with the TikTok app. You might also have been banned temporarily from the app for several reasons.

Reason 1- Age Restrictions

TikTok has restrictions set for the age needed to go live on the app. Usually, you can open an account if you are 12+ years of age, which is advised by TikTok on their app page along with parental guidance.

TikTok does not allow users who are less than 16 years of age to go live. As a matter of fact, to ensure the safety of minors, TikTok has ensured that the TikTok profiles of users aged 13 to 15 are private to maintain their privacy and security.

This means if you have logged in and stated your age to be less than 16 years, you would not be able to go live on TikTok, leading to these errors.

Reason 2- Inadequate amount of followers

If you have the appropriate and required age, that is 16, in order to start a live stream on TikTok, you would also need to have a certain number of followers. This means you would need no less than a thousand followers in order to kick-start your life journey on TikTok.

If you have less than 1000 followers, then even if you are 16 years or above, you would not be able to host a live stream on the app. This is again to prevent users who have not garnered enough credible popularity from misusing the live feature to get people to watch them.

Reason 3- Shadow banned TikTok account

The other important reason which could be preventing you from going live on TikTok is a temporary ban on your TikTok account. This is not common, but can occur if you have, in one way or another violated the terms and conditions of TikTok in any way.

This can also occur if you are spamming a certain feature again and again, or other similar actions. To sum it up, no matter how you get Shadow banned, you would not be able to go live or do other things to interact with your follower base while the ban lasts.

Reason 4- Glitch or issues with the TikTok servers

If the TikTok servers have glitches or are undergoing maintenance for certain glitches, it would without a doubt lead to issues with going live on TikTok.

Usually, TikTok operates on multiple servers, so when pushing an update or doing a maintenance they can make the users switch to other working servers. However, in case of a bug or other issues, this might not be possible, ultimately impairing the ability of the users to operate TikTok and its features normally as they usually could.

Why can’t I go live on TikTok with 1000 followers

We have already mentioned some of the reasons why you cannot go live, and this would not cover anything new except clarifying the reasons in case you have a thousand followers.

Reason 1- Poor internet connection

You know it, we know it, a poor internet connection is a bummer when it comes to social apps such as TikTok and Instagram. Speaking of Instagram, we have got loads of helpful guides on it as well, such as How to make your Instagram post show up again.

We recommend switching over to a WiFi network if you are using mobile data when going live to minimize any issues that can occur with it.

Reason 2- Less than the required age

If you are less than 16 years of age, you would not be able to access the live feature on TikTok. As mentioned earlier, it could occur even if you have more than a thousand followers and would restrict you from going live on TikTok.

The best way to mitigate this is by waiting until your age is 16 or above, or opening a new account with the age of 16 or above and gaining a thousand followers. However, we do not encourage you to put false information for the sake of going live unless you have accidentally put the wrong age in the previous account.

Reason 3- Issues with the TikTok servers

The TikTok servers are again a fairly good reason as to why the live feature might not be working even if you are aged 16 or above and have a thousand or more followers.

If you suspect that the app is not loading properly, or some actions are taking too long to register, it could be a case of down servers. To check and ensure that the servers are working fine, head to downdetector.com and search for TikTok. It would show all the outages areawise.

Reason 4- Glitch in the TikTok app

Glitches, bugs, and lags are common, and you might have a hard time fixing them if not for regular updates provided by the company itself.

You can update the TikTok app simply via Google Play Store and on App Store to fix any possible glitches preventing you from going live. You can also choose to reinstall the app, which would technically do the same thing.

Reason 5- Shadow banned on TikTok

As we mentioned, your actions and TikTok’s terms and conditions for the use of the app matter a lot. Actions such as spamming and suspicious behavior might lead to a temporary ban, and maybe even land you a permanent one if the action persists.

The best way to avoid this is by going through the Terms and Conditions for once if you suspect you have been shadow banned from TikTok and avoid the actions that might be leading to the ban.

How to go live on TikTok without 1000 followers

Fixing why you are unable to go live without a thousand followers could be easy, but trying to go live without a thousand followers is definitely trickier.

This is because the regulations require you to have atleast a 1000 people following you in order for you to be able to go live, and this means there ways that one would use to bypass this is neither legal, nor always working.

  • Step 1: Open TikTok with the account logged in.

Use the account credentials that you would later use to go live.

  • Step 2: Tap the three horizontal line menu in order to open your account settings.

The menu button is located on the top right side of the screen.

  • Step 3: Scroll down and select ‘Report a problem‘.
  • Step 4: Select ‘I can’t start a LIVE’.

You would find this option under the Popular section with a bunch of other common issues users face.

  • Step 5: Select the ‘No‘ option when asked if the issue was resolved.

The dialogue tells the criteria for why a user cannot go live and how they should follow the Terms and Conditions as well as the Community guidelines.

  • Step 6: Write a convincing explanation to the TikTok customer service.

The app will allow you to write and describe your issue in brief and attach images as well. Use it to explain to the customer service why you should be getting the live feature for TikTok.

  • Step 7: Tap on ‘Report‘ to send your message.

There you go, if you write a convincing enough message and explain the issue smartly, you might have your live feature enabled by the TikTok customer service in 1 to 2 days usually.

If you do not get any reply or they mention exclusively that your issue is because of your follower count being less than a 1000, then there is very less that can be done other than wait for your follower count to hit 1000.
