SHEIN is easily one of the largest retailers of fast fashion.

With a ton of different clothes and accessories to choose from, it’s easy to end up with one or two products that aren’t what you expected.

One of the most common questions when it comes to that is if you can return the product without the original packaging.

The answer to that is a little tricky, but there are valid sources online that claim it’s possible.

So, we’re going to dive into this in detail and figure out what exactly you need to return a SHEIN package.


Can You Do A SHEIN Return Without Original Packaging?

Short Answer: SHEIN’s explicit terms and conditions state that you do need the original packaging to return a product. However, there are workarounds for this.

Essentially, you shouldn’t be able to return a product that doesn’t have its original packaging.

But, there have been many cases where customers have managed to successfully get a refund or replacement on their purchases.

It can vary wildly on what needs to be done based on individual accounts of returning items.

However, I’ve gone through a ton of them and figured out the common elements that led to returning the product without any hiccups.


How To Return A SHEIN Product Without Original Packaging

Ideally, you’d want to keep the packaging for items you’ve just purchased in case you need to return it.

But, excitement can get the better of us.

So, if you’re in a pickle trying to figure out how to return a t-shirt that’s too tight or a top that isn’t the right color, here’s how to go about it.


1. Ensure Your Product Can Be Returned

When it comes to clothes, hygiene is an extremely important factor when it comes to returns.

This means you can’t return items you’ve used for more than 15 days.

Additionally, clothes such as underwear, swimsuits, jewelry, and accessories are non-returnable items.

So make sure you’re getting the right size or right product if you’re buying from one of the categories mentioned above.

If your product is eligible for return, here’s what you need to do next.


2. Apply For A Product Return From Your SHEIN Account

Once you’ve confirmed your product is a returnable item, you need to request a return.

To do this,

  • Step 1- Visit SHEIN’s website and login to your account, or use the app if you have it installed on your device.
  • Step 2- Click on ‘My Orders’ and find the order number in which the product you want to return is listed.
  • Step 3- From the order, click on ‘Return Item’.
  • Step 4- Select the items from the order you want to return, provide a reason for returning it and hit ‘Submit’.
  • Step 5- Finally, choose whether you want to send the package in yourself or if you want it picked up.

Once everything is done from your end, wait for the courier service to reach out to you or pack it up and mail it in at your nearest post office.

In the meantime, since you don’t have the original packaging, here’s what you need to do.


3. Package Your Products Properly

Even if you don’t have the original packaging material for your SHEIN products, you’ll still need some packaging.

As mentioned earlier, products like jewelry, fragrances, beauty products, and underwear can’t be returned because the original package is the retail package.

But it’s different for clothes.

Depending on how many products and how big they are, you’ll need to get a box.

Fold your products and place them inside any box you can find. 

Empty Amazon delivery boxes from your previous orders are probably the best.

But wait.

There’s one more thing you need to do before sending your package on its merry way.


4. Print Out The Product SKUs

This is an extremely important step and is one of the key factors in successfully returning the product to SHEIN.

Because SHEIN has such a large catalog of clothes from various brands, they almost always identify clothing items based on SKUs.

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is a unique alphanumeric code that identifies the product on their system.

Basically, instead of saying red/black t-shirt which is pretty ambiguous, an SKU immediately tells you what product it is.

To find your products SKU,

  • Step 1- Open SHEIN on a browser or through the app and go to ‘My Orders’.
  • Step 2- Find the order with the products you want to return.
  • Step 3- Click on the image of a product you want to return, and it’ll take you to that product’s page.
  • Step 4- Scroll down and click on the downward arrow next to ‘Description’.
  • Step 5- You’ll find the SKU right at the end of the product’s description.

You’ll need to find the SKUs for all the products you want to return.

Once you’ve got all of them, you can write them out on a piece of paper, but I’d recommend printing them out.

Mark each SKU to the description of the item on a Word document or on notepad and print it out.

Place this paper along inside the box to return and make sure you seal it properly with packing tape.

After that, you’re all good to return your package to SHEIN.


Things To Keep In Mind While Returning Products

Here are a few important things to note when returning stuff to SHEIN.

If you’re someone who cuts the labels on your clothes as soon as you get them, it’s a no-go.

By labels, I’m referring to the washing instructions and one on the collar.

Make sure there isn’t any damage to the fabric or items like buttons, chains, or other accessories attached to the clothing.

I don’t recommend washing the clothes before returning them, either.

This might cause the clothes to shrink, and plus, the smell of detergent just screams ‘I’ve used this enough to have to wash it’.

And lastly, items delivered on separate days should be submitted as separate return requests, even if they were in the same order.

This is so that each product is returned within its stipulated return window of 15 days.

But as long as you keep these tips in mind, you should be good to go on getting a refund or replacement.
