When you block someone on Instagram, yours as well as their Instagram goes through a series of changes. These changes are:
1. Changes in the Chatbox
There are changes in the Chatbox for both users and that is, the ability to message the person is removed, technically speaking. This means you can still message the person whatever you want, but it would never reach them, even if you unblock them later on.
2. Changes in username and profile picture
In the Chatbox as well as in the search, the person would appear to have no profile picture and the username would change to ‘Instagrammer’. This indicates that the person has either deactivated their account or blocked you.
Do keep in mind that this is not the change visible to the one who blocked the person. They would be able to see the other user normally, with an option to ‘unblock’ them whenever they open the Chatbox.
The Direct Messages or DMs that were sent previously, along with any media or shareable data would not be removed and will be accessible even after blocking, if not unsent especially.
3. Removal of likes and comments
If you have blocked someone then their likes and comments on your profile posts and Reels would be removed. This action is irreversible and even after you unblock the person, their comments and likes are not restored on your posts, etc.
The same goes for the other person, your comments and likes disappear from their account and remain so even after an unblock. This is one good reason why you should always be careful and think twice before blocking users who are close friends to you.
4. Disabled Mentions and Tags
The person that has been blocked would not be able to tag you or mention you in any kind of posts or Reels, thus making it appear as it you have deactivated your profile, unless the person has a reason to believe that they have been blocked.
