How to Find People on Discord (Mobile & PC)

1. Using the Discord Username and Tag

The easiest way to find someone on Discord is by using their username and tag (e.g., User#1234).

On Mobile (Android & iOS):

  1. Open the Discord app.
  2. Tap on the Friends tab at the bottom.
  3. Click the Add Friend button (a person with a plus sign).
  4. Enter the exact username followed by the #tag (e.g., JohnDoe#5678).
  5. Tap Send Friend Request.

On PC:

  1. Open Discord on your desktop or browser.
  2. Click the Friends tab in the left sidebar.
  3. Click Add Friend at the top.
  4. Enter the username and tag correctly.
  5. Click Send Friend Request.

⚠️ Important: The username and tag must be exactly correct (including capitalization and special characters). If the person has Discord’s new username system, they may not have a #tag anymore, so ask for their exact username.

2. Searching for Users in a Discord Server

If the person you’re looking for is in the same server as you, you can search for them directly.

On Mobile:

  1. Open the Discord app.
  2. Tap on the server where the person is a member.
  3. Tap the Members list (👥 icon in the top-right corner).
  4. Use the search bar to type their name or username.

On PC:

  1. Open Discord and go to the server where the person is a member.
  2. Click on the Members list (on the right side).
  3. Use the search bar at the top to find the person.

Once you find them, you can send a friend request or message them if their settings allow it.

3. Checking Mutual Servers

If you’ve interacted with someone before, but you forgot their username, you can check mutual servers.

On Mobile:

  1. Tap the Friends tab at the bottom.
  2. Tap the profile picture of a friend.
  3. Scroll down to see the Mutual Servers section.

On PC:

  1. Click the Friends tab on the left sidebar.
  2. Click the profile of a friend.
  3. Scroll down to check Mutual Servers.

This method helps if the person is already in a server with you, but you forgot their username.

4. Using Discord’s Nearby Feature (Mobile Only)

If you and the person you’re looking for are physically near each other, you can use Discord’s Nearby Friends feature.

On Mobile:

  1. Open the Discord app.
  2. Go to the Friends tab.
  3. Tap Add Friend > Nearby Scan.
  4. Ask the other person to do the same.

This method requires both users to have Bluetooth and location services enabled.

5. Checking Your Direct Message (DM) History

If you’ve chatted with someone before but lost their username, you can check your old messages.

On Mobile & PC:

  1. Open Discord.
  2. Click on Direct Messages (DMs) on the left.
  3. Scroll through your message history to find the user.

If you still see past messages, you can click on their profile and add them again.

6. Finding People Through Discord Communities

If you don’t have someone’s username but want to meet new people, you can explore public Discord servers.

On Mobile & PC:

  1. Click the Explore Public Servers button on Discord’s home screen.
  2. Search for topics of interest (e.g., gaming, tech, art).
  3. Join a server and check the member list to interact with people.

Many servers allow users to connect, chat, and make friends through shared interests.
