The Xiaomi Poco M3 is continuing the Poco brand’s tradition of providing a phone that gives you arguably the best bang for your buck out of any phone in its price range. They gained a reputation for doing this sort of thing with the release of the Poco F1 back in 2018. That device offered what was, at the time, the top-of-the-line processor in the Snapdragon 845, as well as up to 8 GB of RAM in a fairly inexpensive package.
These were flagship specifications for around half the price. While the Xiaomi Poco M3 does not compete with flagships, it’s a great option for someone on a budget. It comes with an octa-core Snapdragon 662 processor. It has two sets of four cores clocked at different frequencies. There are four Kryo 260 Gold cores clocked at 2 GHz, as well as four Kryo 260 Silver cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. Regardless, you can expect reliable performance from this device across the board.
Combine that with 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage and you have a great package on your hands. They even threw in a micro SDXC card slot to let you add even more storage for good measure. It’s also rocking a 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels.
Powering all of these components is a monstrous 6000 mAh battery that supports 18 W fast-charging. This may not seem so fast compared to the 66W fast-charging in some flagships. However, that humongous battery is going to last you a while anyway. It also runs Android 10 out of the box, with the MIUI 12 skin on top of it.
Finally, we come to the cameras. These lower to mid-range smartphones have been stepping up their camera game, and the Xiaomi Poco M3 is no different. The front-facing 8 MP wide-angle camera is nothing to write home about. However, the 48 MP wide-angle main camera on the back, a pair of 2 MP lenses, one for macro photography and a depth sensor, do make for quite a setup. It’s a capable and varied system that should give you some great shots.
